Conventional inverters primarily depend on grid electricity to charge their batteries, making them ineffective during prolonged power outages. This study presents the design and development of a hybrid inverter with a solar battery charging system that integrates utility power and photovoltaic (PV) energy to ensure continuous power availability. The proposed system consists of a 12 V rechargeable battery, an inverter circuit, a solar panel, a battery charging controller, an automatic source selection relay, and a step-up transformer for AC output generation. Under normal operating conditions, the battery is charged using the utility power supply while simultaneously supplying power to connected loads. During grid failures, the system automatically switches to battery operation, with the solar panel continuously recharging the battery to extend backup duration and improve overall system reliability. The hybrid configuration minimizes dependence on the electrical grid, enhances battery life through dual-source charging, and promotes the utilization of renewable energy for sustainable power generation. The developed system offers an economical, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly solution for providing uninterrupted power supply in areas experiencing frequent power interruptions. Experimental evaluation demonstrates improved backup performance, seamless source switching, and enhanced operational efficiency compared to conventional inverter systems.
